ABOUT THE ROLE

Key to the company's success, we require a self-driven and motivated Commercial Manager to join our team. You will be working closely with the project teams specifically involved in coaching, developing, reviewing and monitoring all aspects of commercial and project contractual administration, ensuring best practice commercial management processes are followed. The position will also involve junior and peer mentoring to ensure development and skill transfer within the business.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Procurement

  • Responsible for all procurement up to delegated financial authority limits
  • Working with the Regional Manager, assist with setting procurement targets for project teams
  • Monitor procurement across all projects and work with project teams to achieve desired results
  • Personally carry out procurement for key and/or critical subcontractors and suppliers as or where required
  • Review and approve sub-contractor and supplier agreements/creditor applications

Contract Management

  • Review and approve payment schedules ensuring compliance with the Construction Contracts Act and Subcontract Agreement
  • Review and ensure Project Control Group reports are completed, accurately forecasting final contract price and completion date
  • Review, ensure (and approve where necessary) Extension of Time and Variation claims are prepared and submitted in accordance with our agreements
  • Review and ensure that financial management is being completed diligently and accurately so that financial reports can be relied upon
  • Review and ensure labour trackers are implemented and functioning correctly
  • Personally carry out contract management for key and/or critical commercial issues as or where required
  • Assist project teams to resolve contractual issues and escalate complex and high value items
  • Maintain a level of influence over project teams, consultants, and clients by attending meetings

Training and Continuous Improvement

  • Deliver training to new and existing employees to achieve a high level of competency and contractual awareness in the business
  • Develop and update existing 'how to' guides or create new 'how to' guides where necessary
  • Contribute to the content development and delivery of commercial topics at focus groups

People Management

  • Manage the Quantity Surveyors within the region as assigned
  • Maintain a level of accessibility to the team, most commonly done through weekly meetings with each team member
  • Foster a positive and high performing working environment
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional development

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant years of QS experience for a Commercial Manager
  • Experience in leading and managing teams
  • Senior level understanding of commercial contract law
  • Diploma or degree in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • CostX (training provided)
  • CAT Projects (training provided)
